Work in progress

Happy October to all!

First, a quick apology to everyone for wandering off for so long. It's been a nightmare month at work...but that's neither here, nor there. What matters is that I'm back at the proverbial drawing board and trying to make up for lost time. This week, I'm sharing a work in progress. I spent most of today "inking" it, and will probably start coloring sometime this coming week. In response to mixed reviews of my "animated" style, I've returned my old style for this one. Also, I've decided to go with a bit of spicy Latino flavoring. Enjoy!

Big Devil Animated

Happy Saturday!

It's said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. You can, however, give him a new look. I give you the "new and improved" Big Devil. I've given him a sleeker superhero look. Originally his entire body was to be covered with the plastech costume, but now he's showing as much skin as in the first drawing without having to play stretch-a-suit. His new ensemble includes an handy cape that can expand to protect the entire body or become a pair of handy-dandy devil wings. The one arm shows how the plastech can mold itself into any sort of tool or weapon his brain can dream up.

Also, this piece showcases my newest stylization. I call it my "Animated" look. It's highly influenced by the current rash of superhero toons. I like it, because it allows me to produce a more dramatic character with tighter, cleaner lines. I have more works in this same vein that will be posted in coming weeks.

Enjoy!

Robert's artwork

Howdy gang! It's Sunday...and Sunday, as we all know, is a day for reflection on all things heavenly. That's why I've taken this opportunity to share some of my love's own artwork. Robert is so incredibly talented. Don't ask me why we are wasting our lives in the 9 to 5 workforce. One of these days, we're gonna walk into work, suck face in front of the right-wingers, and quit. (We like to imagine every one's heads literally exploding.)

Robert drew, inked, and colored this piece. Cool, huh?

Superman shoots a load

Hey folks,

Been a looooong time since last I posted . The biggest reason being that I've been working on so many different things that just aren't ready for prime time yet. So everyone will have to wait for those goodies. In the mean time, I do have something to offer the rest of the class. I was thinking about all the erotic angst going on with some of our favorite characters, and decided to play around with a classic Icon. So I've given Supes the ol' chubtoons treatment.

Also, I have a question for everyone. About two months ago, my grandfather passed away. He was openly gay and accepted, as I am, by all members of the family. However, I discovered recently that in scavenging through his possessions my mother and aunts found a large stash of gay adult videos and magazines. When I suggested that I would like to have them, I was told that they had been dumped into a pit and burned. I can (somewhat) understand their being emotional at the loss of a father, but I'm incredibly sore that they destroyed his belongings because they consider it to be "filth". My question is this: Does anyone have experience or advice in dealing with family and justifying their choice in drawing or producing pornographic artwork? It's just something that hangs heavy in the back of my mind these days.

Who is he?...Not even he knows.

Heavy Metal Profile Hey, gang.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm just coasting by...waiting to turn a year older this Monday. Yay me.
Anyway, This week sees the introduction of a mysterious new character named Magnus X. I'll post the profile soon; but go ahead and click on the b&w art to see him in full color. As always, critiques will be both welcome and appreciated.

Another layer for the Hero Sandwich

Heavy Metal Profile Ok...I know we've all seen this one; but I just finished the profile for Big D, and wanted to share with the rest of the class. As you'll see, I'm starting to pull the characters together into a sort of family. The story seems to be writing itself, so a comic may happen sooner than later for these guys.

Hey, gang. Another week has come and gone. "Thanks!" to everyone who visited my Beartoons page last week. I really need to get back to my inking. "Use it - or loose it" comes to mind. Trouble is that 90% of my time goes to making ends meet, leaving me with a puny 10% to devote to my real talents. The worst part of having a day job is knowing that all the blood and sweat you're wasting on it could be used elsewhere to create something great. I always end up feeling guilty or embarrassed for not finding the time to do more. Wouldn't that be cool - to be able to pull a few extra hours a day out of my ass. Eh...tempus fuck it!

Anyway, this week I'm giving everyone a taste of chocolate. I don't know what's the current socially accepted term: "black" to me sounds like it implies that one's skin is actually the color black; "African-American" implies that one lives in America, but was born in Africa; "Nubian" implies that one is from the Sudan or southern Egypt; I believe that "brother" or "brotha" are reserved for use between members within the particular community; just the thought of saying or writing the "n" word makes my skin crawl - that too is reserved for use by members of the community. I like "chocolate". It doesn't imply color, history, geography or social relationship. It's dark and delicious. Simple as that.

And with that said, I was doing some practice sketches this week and decided to have Robert ink one of the better ones. Unfortunately, he couldn't find the brush pen he likes using, so he ended up making due with a finer point. He still did a good job.
